From FiveDollarWiki
Mesothelioma Cancer
Mesothelioma cancer is a form of cancer where malignant cells develop in a protective lining that covers most of a persons internal organs and is most commonly found in the outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity. In most occasions Mesothelioma cancer is caused when a person has worked on jobs where they have inhaled asbestos fibres or have been exposed to asbestos fibres through other means such as handling clothes worn by someone who has worked with asbestos or when renovating a home using asbestos based cement products.
Mesothelioma Cancer Symptoms
The symptoms of mesothelioma cancer don't usually surface for around twenty to thirty years after the asbestos particles have been inhaled in large quantities. The particles accumulate in the lungs over a long period of time and take decades to react with the body. This reaction causes a tumor which turns into a dangerous cancer. After the symptoms are diagnosed the maximum period of time the patient is expected to live is no more than a couple of years but life expectancy can be stretched for up to five years if the symptoms are diagnosed early enough and a rigorous routine of treatment takes place. At the time of writing there is no cure for mesothelioma cancer and no chance of survival for the patient.
Mesothelioma cancer symptoms are similar to many minor harmless diseases which makes diagnosis at an early stage and consequently early treatment very difficult. The general symptoms of mesothelima cancer are shortness of breath, pain in the chest, cough, and loss in weight.
Mesothelioma cancer comes in two forms, pleural mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma.
Pleural Mesothilioma Cancer Symptoms
- Pain in the chest caused by formation and accumulation on fluid in the chest.
- Shortness of breath, hoarseness, coughing up of blood and difficulty in swallowing.
- Some pain in upper abdomen, arm or shoulder.
Peritoneal Mesothilioma Cancer Symptoms
- Loss of weight, abdominal pain and swelling of abdomen due to fluid concentration.
- Bowel obstruction, anemia, fever, blood clots.
